Just a 50-minute drive from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Amakhala Game Reserve offers the ultimate malaria-free safari adventure. Our day safaris depart daily from two lodges on the reserve:
Guided by an expert ranger in an open safari vehicle, you’ll spend four incredible hours exploring Amakhala’s vast wilderness—home to the Big 5, along with cheetah, giraffe, zebra, black wildebeest and a wide variety of antelope and birdlife.
Whether you’re visiting the region on a tight schedule or simply looking for a memorable day out in nature, this safari experience ticks all the boxes.

09h30: – Arrive at the lodge for orientation and to meet your ranger
10h00 – 13h00 – Guided Day Safari through Amakhala Game Reserve
13h00 – 14h00 – Enjoy a delicious 2-course lunch at the lodge
14h00 – 15h30 – Head out for a second 1.5-hour game drive for more unforgettable wildlife moments (Full-Day option only)

More than 7 days – no cancellation fee
7 days or less – 25% cancellation fee
3 days or less – 50% cancellation fee

Add on a Boat Cruise: Currently unavailable
Feeling adventurous? Why don't you add on a 1 hour boat cruise along the majestic Bushman's River, the lifeblood of the reserve? Spot Big 5 on the riverbanks, keep your eyes peeled for a wide variety of endemic bird species, and scan for hippos in the water.

Follow the N2 from Port Elizabeth towards Grahamstown for approximately 60 km.
Look out for the R342 turn-off to Paterson — continue for about 2 km past that turn-off.
About 1 km before the R342 Karel Landman right-hand turn-off, you’ll see the main entrance gate to Leeuwenbosch on your right.
Enter through the main gate and park on the grass to the left. Staff will meet you there and walk you up to the Safari Day Centre (ARCC).
Directions Hlosi Game Lodge:
Follow the N2 from Port Elizabeth towards Grahamstown for about 70 km.
Do not take the first R342 left to Paterson. Continue for 3 km and turn right onto the R342 towards Alexandria (Karel Landman Monument).
Enter through the security gate and follow signs to Hlosi Game Lodge (±5 km).
Park at the lodge where your guide will meet you.
Easily accessible from Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown and Addo, the Day Safaris run daily. Transfers may be arranged.
